Anthony Brown - Principal Investigator
BSc Hons & PhD, King’s College, University of London
brown.2302@osu.edu
Tony obtained his BSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology from King’s College in the University of London and then his PhD in Biophysics from the same institution under the direction of Peter Eagles. After post-doctoral training with Ray Lasek at Case Western Reserve University and Mark Black at Temple University, he joined the Department of Biological Sciences at Ohio University in 1993. In 2001 he moved to Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he is now a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Director of the Neuroscience Center Core and Neuroscience Imaging Core, and Co-Director of the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology graduate program. Tony has more than 30 years experience studying neurofilaments and the neuronal cytoskeleton.

Atsuko Uchida - Research Scientist
BSc & PhD, Tokyo Institute of Technology
uchida.11@osu.edu
Atsuko obtained BS degrees in Health Science and Chemistry from Tokyo Metropolitan University and Tokyo University of Science and then obtained her MSc and PhD from Tokyo Institute of Technology under the direction of Shin-ichi Hisanaga. After post-doctoral research with Tomoko Tashiro at Aoyamagakuin University, and with Shinichi Hisanaga at Tokyo Metropolitan University, Atsuko joined the Brown lab where she is currently a post-doctoral Research Associate. Atsuko is currently working on the mechanism of neurofilament severing and annealing in neurons and its implications for the regulation of neurofilament transport. Atsuko’s honors include a post-doctoral fellowship from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, and the 2005 Molecular Biology of the Cell Paper of the Year Award.

Nicholas Boyer - Postdoctoral Fellow
BS, Clemson University
PhD, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
boyer.474@osu.edu
Nick obtained his BS in Biochemistry from Clemson University, worked for several years as a Research Assistant in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Medical University of South Carolina, then earned his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill under the direction of Stephanie Gupton. Nick’s doctoral research focused on the role of TRIM family ubiquitin ligases in cytoskeletal regulation during axon development. Nick was the recipient of an NIH F31 predoctoral fellowship in the Gupton lab and is currently supported by an Ohio State University President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program fellowship. Nick’s work in the Brown lab focuses on the axonal transport of cytoskeletal proteins.

Paula Monsma - Research Assistant
BS & MS, Case Western Reserve University
monsma.1@osu.edu
Paula obtained her BS in Biological Sciences from Ohio Northern University and her MS in Cell Biology from Case Western Reserve University. She has 4 years experience as a Research Assistant in the Department of Neuropathology and 4 years experience managing a DNA sequencing facility. Since 2004 she has managed the Neuroscience Imaging Core, where she is currently responsible for all oversight and training on our two confocal microscopes. Paula joined the Brown lab in 2009 and currently divides her time between managing the Imaging Core and the Brown lab, where she performs electron microscopy and also conducts her own research projects on neurofilament transport in myelinated axons.
